Craigslist Reviews
Craigslist Claim: Craigslist’s 13+ years of primarily free online classified advertisement postings has evolved into one of the premier mediums for selling merchandise, offering services, searching job postings, listing real estate, and a number of other choices. Craigslist is built around communities and targets the marketplace by location. Craigslist is perfect for regional sales and selling products too bulky for shipping. Although not an Online Auction by definition, it certainly can produce income to rival eBay sales. Craigslist shines by offering the listing service free of charge. You can save enormous amounts of advertising fees by posting your car for sale, an apartment for rent, or placing a house on the market with craigslist rather than in a local newspaper. Craigslist can be used to make money in a variety of ways due to its versatility of use.

I have used craigslist to sell a motorcycle and to list vacancies within my investment property. The motorcycle sale was fantastic and easy. I freely listed it, uploaded a couple pictures, and scheduled 4 showings in one day. It sold for a couple hundred less than I had originally listed it for, but the ad only ran for a couple days. Talk about speed.
For my rental property, I noticed my unit’s interest nearly doubled as compared to just listing with my local news paper. During the showings, the caliber of tenants was dramatically different between those coming from craigslist and the newspaper. This is probably not very “PC”, but the craigslist folks had decent vehicles, represented themselves well enough, and at least had the means to access the internet. Tenant prospects coming from the Newspaper ad appeared relatively less successful than their craigslist counterparts. Meaning took a cab or walked to the showing, dressed in worn out clothes, employed sporadically everywhere, earned less income, and many did not even know what craigslist is. Needless to say, my new tenant heard about the unit on craigslist.
The con about craigslist is that I don’t believe there is the profit potential to sell merchandise in bulk or as a steady business in comparison to the online auction marketplace. Each sale on craigslist is garnered more toward cities, states, or countries and every listing may not be available to international marketplaces like ebay.
